Bjorn Side Table
Bjorn Side Table
Two woods. One table. No compromises.
The Bjorn is built from solid American black walnut and white oak — dark walnut for the legs and frame, lighter oak for the top and lower shelf. The contrast between the two species is not decorative. It is deliberate. Walnut brings strength and character to the structural elements. Oak brings warmth and a subtler grain to the surfaces you actually use. Together they create something that reads clearly as mid-century modern from across the room and rewards closer inspection with detail that most furniture at this price point simply does not have.
The legs taper on two faces and angle outward slightly from the frame — a detail that lifts the table visually and gives it a planted, confident stance. The apron is walnut, sitting just below the oak top, and the lower shelf sits flush within the leg frame rather than floating between them. The shelf is practical without being fussy: wide enough for books, a speaker, a tray of remotes.
Every joint in the Bjorn is mortise-and-tenon or dowel jointery. Hand-cut, hand-fitted before glue-up, glued and clamped and left to cure. No pocket screws. No cam locks. No hardware that loosens over time. A joint that goes together with moderate hand pressure and comes apart cleanly is a joint that will hold for decades. That is the standard we work to on every piece.
The top has softly rounded corners — not a sharp ninety-degree edge, but a gentle radius that feels considered under your hand. The transition from the oak top to the walnut apron below it is clean and tight, the two species meeting at a precise line. This is the kind of detail that separates a handmade piece from a manufactured one.
Finished with hard wax oil and hand-buffed. Walnut and oak take oil differently, and both are better for it. The walnut deepens to a rich chocolate. The oak holds its warm honey tone. Over years, both mellow further. A Bjorn you own for a decade looks better than one you bought last week.

Care
Wipe with a dry cloth. Avoid standing water on the surface. The two woods age at slightly different rates and develop a patina together that no new piece can replicate.
